Don't Judge?

Don't Judge?

Mar 03, 2024

Passage: Matthew 7:1-6

Preacher: Rob Holster

Series: Gospel of the Kingdom

Summary:

We're starting a new chapter––chapter 7 of Matthew––but we're still in the middle of the Sermon on the Mount. Jesus has just told us, "Don't worry," and now he's going to tell us, "Don't judge." The end of chapter 6 was so very clear about the reason we're not to worry––He will provide. Look at the birds––they don't worry and God feeds them. Look at the wildflowers-––they don't work or make their own clothes or worry about a thing––and God clothes them in splendor. And these two pictures have an amazing point attached to them. If God provides for them, then we can be assured he will provide for us, who are much more valuable. So the message last time was "Don't worry," and it's related to the message this Sunday: "Don't judge." They are related because when it comes to judging others we need to let God handle that––as in––"Don't worry, let God handle it." However we are to judge ourselves, and that makes for an interesting caveat to the commandment to not judge.
