Passage: The First Letter of Paul to the Corinthians 1 Corinthians 10:14-22

Preacher: Rob Holster

Series: To God's Church

Summary:

Last week I talked about how this letter reminds me of Independence Day because the Apostle Paul was writing to remind Christians of their freedom and history. However he's also writing to remind them of their de-pendence on God, rather than in-dependence, which is what we celebrate on the 4th. The message this week will focus on 1 Corinthians 10:14-22, where Paul calls believers to escape idolatry. He mentioned at the end of the passage from last week that "God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it." So now he's calling us to use that way of escape when it comes to idolatry––which comes in many forms. We may not struggle with bowing down to a carved image of an idol, but we do struggle with idols. This passage also reminds us of the significance of our fellowship with Christ through the Lord's Table. Together, we'll explore what it means to give Christ our wholehearted devotion, how our worship shapes our lives, and why our communion with Him calls us to faithful living.
