Passage: Luke

Preacher: Rob Holster

Category: Christmas Services

Summary:

In the church we call this season Advent, which means, "coming." It's the time of year when we look forward to the coming Messiah––who would be born in Bethlehem. He came in the fullness of time, so I think it's proper that we look at the original Advent season as we prepare this year. Beginning with this message we will take a three week tour through Luke 1. Most of us are very familiar with Luke 2––and we read it every Christmas Eve––it's the story of the birth of Jesus. But in anticipation of that event, I'd like to take us through the events that led up to that miraculous night. God was working to prepare God's people for His coming into the world. God was silent for over 400 years between the Prophet Malachi (the last book in the Old Testament) and the Gospel accounts of Jesus' birth. But when he broke the silence, it was the promise of light coming into the world. Luke 1 gives us the backstory of how God was moving even before the light arrived. It should give us hope that God is always working, even when it's dark and He seems silent.
