Passage: Luke

Preacher: Rob Holster

Category: Christmas Services

Summary:

Last time we started a new Christmas series called, "The Fullness Of Time." It covers Luke 1, which comes just before the birth of Christ. These are the events that broke the silence of God, who had seemed distant for 430 years after the book of Malachi was written, which is the end of the Old Testament. But for 430 years God was silent, you might say. Not that he wasn't working his plan––for part of his plan is his timing–-which we don't understand. We wish God would just do all that we want him to––and when we want him to. No delays, please. But anyone who has followed Christ can tell you––God's timing is often different–-but it's always right, and his work is sure. Just as when Jesus came into the world. In Luke 1, we see God working to prepare those people who would play a part in the birth of the coming Messiah. Last time it was about Zechariah and Elizabeth, and the news of their coming son––John. This week we're going to meet Mary, a poor peasant girl betrothed to Joseph. Not even married yet, and still a virgin, yet chosen by God to carry the Lord Jesus.
