Summary:

We've been studying 1 Corinthians for a while now and we're in the middle of an interesting part where the subject is Spiritual gifts and love. And that may sound like a strange combination, but the argument from last week goes like this: You can have all the Spiritual gifts––and you can exercise all the Spiritual gifts––but unless you have love––it is of no value. There is no spiritual benefit in that––for yourself or for others. Another way to put it is like this: Spiritual gifts without love are not worth less, they are worthless. And this week, as we continue in ch. 13––the love chapter––we're going to see that the gifts will pass away. They are only temporary. Best not to set our hearts on them. We should set our hearts on things that last. So we'll find that the gifts are temporary––but faith, hope, and love are not. They are permanent. They never end. And the greatest of these is love. So many other things will go away, but love will always remain. And it's not our Spiritual gifting that determines our spiritual maturity––it's actually love that is the indicator of spiritual maturity––if we love one another––how we love one another.
