Ruth 4

Dec 22, 2024

Passage: Ruth 4:1-22

Preacher: Rob Holster

Series: Ruth: A Bethlehem Story

Summary:

It seems like we just started the book of Ruth for Advent, but we're already nearing the end of our study––and the season of Advent. Advent means coming and it's the season where we anticipate the arrival of the coming Savior––Jesus. This book is might be considered a prelude to the Christmas story, which we find in the Gospels of the New Testament. The events in Ruth happened over a thousand years before the birth of Christ––but they have everything to do with that arrival. We've seen how Ruth and Boaz remind us of Mary and Joseph, but last week we saw how––in a broader sense––Ruth reminds us of ourselves. We are in need of a redeemer, and Boaz is that redeemer for Ruth. But we can also see Jesus in him. Jesus is our redeemer––in fact, he's the redeemer for all mankind. We can have forgiveness and life and a relationship with God through Him. This week we'll finish the story––this love story between Ruth and Boaz––but also the God story of how God brought about the Savior in His perfect timing––through some very unlikely events––and through some very unlikely people.
