The Reality Of The Resurrection

The Reality Of The Resurrection

Passage: 1 Corinthians 15:12-20

Preacher: Rob Holster

Category: Easter Services

Summary:

The Friday before Easter Sunday is called Good Friday. It's called good because it was good for us. Jesus was crucified for our sins––our sins being nailed to the cross, as it were––so that we might be forgiven and counted as righteous. So the first Good Friday was good in the work that was accomplished, but it was also a dark day. It was the day when the Prince of Glory died. Tonight we are holding a Tenebrae service at 7pm. Tenebrae means darkness and it will be a time to remember that day when the light of life was extinguished. Thankfully, the light was only put out for a brief moment in time as Jesus would rise again on the third day–-on Easter Sunday. This Sunday we will gather together to remember that day. Most of us are familiar with the story, and it never gets old. But what are the ongoing implications of that one event? It was a miracle, sure, but what makes it such a big deal? I think many of us compartmentalize the resurrection of Christ––remembering the story on Easter––but then not fully realizing it in our everyday lives.
