Passage: Matthew 11:16-24

Preacher: Rob Holster

Series: Gospel of the Kingdom

Summary:

In our series, we're in the middle of a difficult chapter––chapter 11 of Matthew. It's difficult because of the hard sayings of Jesus. It makes us think he's not who we thought he was. We all have these ideas and presuppositions about the Savior. So did the people in Jesus' day. It's a difficult passage because it brings up some difficult questions: Is Jesus the one, or should we keep looking for another? Are we satisfied with Jesus? What did we expect, anyway? We'll tackle at least two of those questions Sunday as we get into the middle of the chapter where Jesus compares people to spoiled children. He gets to the heart of their unrealized expectations––and how people have a problem with him because he's not doing the right things--the things we want him to do. The chapter comes to a beautiful close, with words of invitation and encouragement––and we'll get to that next time we're in Matthew. This week is a little harder, but I think desperately needed. We need to know the Savior as he really is––not someone we've created in our minds.
