Passage: Matt. 21:1-11

Preacher: Rob Holster

Series: Gospel of the Kingdom

Summary:

If you tuned in for the livestream last Sunday, you'll remember that Jesus posed a question at the end of Matthew 20––"What do you want me to do for you?" He asked this to a couple of blind men, but it's also a question we all need to ponder. What do we want from Jesus? Do we want something he can provide that will make our lives better? Or do we want Him? Which leads me to a question that's not asked directly, but is implied in the text for this Sunday––Matthew 21:1-11. The question is, "What do you think about Jesus?" or you might say, "Who do you say He is?" The passage is known as The Triumphal Entry, when Jesus enters Jerusalem to begin what we now call the Passion Week. In other words, it's about Palm Sunday. Jesus enters like a king, but not the king the people were expecting. Therefore it draws various responses, all of which are still in play today. Because we're responding to the question, "What do we think about Jesus?" Jesus came into Jerusalem to be the king. It was prophesied, "Your king is coming to you." And in the same way he came to be––not just their king––but our king. So how do we receive him? Who do we say He is? That's the question we'll look at in more detail.
